Speaking on Happy FM?s morning programme on Friday, May 13, 2005, Kwabena admitted that Anane?s deeds have become a grave source of embarrassment to the government and that it is giving the government cause to worry.
According to Kwabena, the government should not provide cover for functionaries who have misconducted themselves and that such people need to be fired.
Sounding exasperated, obviously as a result of the heat of the fire that is burning at the feet of his party and President, Kwabena could not hide his feelings about the headache that the on-going Anane saga is giving the NPP government.
Kwabena Agyapong said, we need ?straight thinking people to manage the affairs of the state?, apparently ruling out Richard Anane as one of ?straight thinking people? needed ?to manage the affairs of the state?. ?straight thinking people to manage the affairs of the state?
Of course no straight thinking person would go for an AIDS conference and have unprotected sex, have a baby, send over $100,000 to mother and baby, and then later abandon them only for the mother of the baby to decide to take him to the cleaners.
Kwabena Agyapong did not attempt to hide his frustration at the continued stay of Anane as a Minister of State during interview referred to on Happy FM.
Indeed that was not the first time he made it public. About a week earlier on Joy FM?s Super Morning Show, Kwabena stated in no uncertain terms that Anane?s conduct has caused a lot of discomfort to the government.
Kwabena Agyapong has never given anyone reason to question his ability to think straight. Though loquacious, he is also an individual who chooses his words with a fair amount of circumspection.
Kwabena?s admission that the government, and to all intents and purposes the President, is not comfortable with Anane?s gross acts of indiscretion ala the Alexandria and GIA affairs, has raised questions as to what is it that is making it impossible for President Kufuor to fire Anane? Why is the President finding it such monumental a task, to show Anane the door?
Is it because Anane is a nephew? Is it because he is the front man for Kufuor? Or is it because he is the moneybag through which kickbacks from the road contracts filter back to the powers that be? We sure do need some answers.
? the kind, that made Freddie Blay (himself with his own skeletons) refer to Anane as a ?notorious womanizer? when he went before the appointments committee of parliament.
