Kwabena Agyapong Re-lives Victor Owusu’s “Inward-Looking” Speech

The hate speech and the bigotry of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) towards the people of Volta Region has been exposed once again by a recent film released by Jarreth Merz, entitled _An African Election_.

The hate-spewing Kwabena Agyapong has been exposed in a documentary of the 2008 elections by one Jarreth Merz, a film producer of Ghanaian parentage. The documentary, ‘An African Elections,’ gives in-depth accounts of both public and behind-the-scenes happenings in the 2008 elections, including the campaign trails of the NPP and the NDC, and activities of the Electoral Commission (EC), including strong room processes and above all, the fierce clash that took place between the representatives of the two parties over some results from the Ashanti Region that the NDC said were caused to be fraudulently changed by the NPP.

In the movie, Kwabena Agyapong, an NPP stalwart and former NPP presidential aspirant, launched a scathing attack on the Ewes and the people of Hohoe by claiming that there are no human beings in Hohoe.

When Mr Kwabena Agyapong, who was an NPP representative in the strong room of the EC in the 2008 elections, was confronted by NDC’s representatives over the matter, he retorted:

“We will challenge the figures from Volta. There are no human beings in the Volta Region.”

Kwabena Agyapong added that since there were no human beings in Volta Region, his party was going to challenge the figures from that part of the country, an indication that to the NPP, the Volta Region, conceivably, is full of animals who could not have been capable of producing impressive election figures for the NDC that have earned the region its ‘NDC World Bank’ accolade.

This recent attack on the Ewes is reminiscent of the infamous 1979 inward-looking attack on the Ewes by no less a person as Victor Owusu of United Party (UP)

It also came on the back of recent attack on the Ewes by Nana Akufo-Addo on their voting trend in Hohoe recently, where he declared that the people of Volta Region have been voting in one way for a very long time.

In an interview with this reporter, a very respectable chief and an opinion leader in Hohoe, revealed that the people of the Volta Region have not forgotten the INSULTS by the late Victor Owusu, that all Ewes are inward-looking. The constant insults and provocation of Ewes by the Dankwa-Busia political tradition.

The revelation in An African Election has unnerved residents of Hohoe who have vowed to face up with the NPP and their insult because, according to them, the NPP have humiliated the people of Volta Region for far too long.

Speaking to _The True Statesman_, a number of residents, in angry tone, declared that they can no longer allow the NPP attack on the Ewes to continue.

“We cannot forget how Ewes were chased out of their workplaces and how Ewes were transferred to “Siberia”, said one man.

The infamous “proceed on leave” mantra adopted by the NPP Government, led by J.A. Kufuor, was mainly applied to Ewes. During the eight-year rule of the NPP, led by Kufuor, Ewes in Government institutions were always sitting on thorns, said another, adding: “We cannot forget how having Ewe name in Ghana under the NPP Government became a taboo.

“A lot of people with Ewe sounding names in the high echelon of the civil service and in other national institutions like the Military, the Police Service, the Prisons Service, Immigration Service, Custom and Preventive Service, the banks etc. were marginalized, and asked to proceed on leave just because God in his own wisdom decided these people, who occupied these positions on their own merits, happened to be Ewes. An example in point of such cases was the case of the Head of Ghana Immigration Service, Mr. Hodari Okai”, he said.

Another resident said that the people of the Volta Region have not forgotten the insults by the late Victor Owusu, a UP kingpin, that all Ewes are inward-looking.

The constant insults and provocation of Ewes by the Dankwa-Busia political tradition, the NPP, also re-emphasized and actually vindicates the view of many people of the region that the NPP is out there with an agenda against Ewes.

One recalled how during the run up to 2008 Parliamentary and Presidential elections, the NPP planned to collect dead bodies from Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital Morgue in Kumasi and dump them in the Volta Region, just to portray that Ewes as callous and murderers.

This evil agenda of the NPP was secretly recorded and played on Radio Gold Programme Election Forensics, hosted by Mr. Raymond Archer.

Only God knows what would have happened if their evil plans had not been exposed by Radio Gold, the resident said.
