The intra-party rivalry in the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) is getting nasty by the day, with the latest being that, the aspiring General Secretary, Kwabena Agyei Agyepong forcibly evicted his party’s vice-presidential candidate in the last election, Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia from his plush Nima office, under strange circumstances.

The ash painted storey building, near the Nima Divisional Police Command in Accra belongs to the former Spokesperson for ex-President John Kufuor, and it was from this that Dr. Bawumia, was reenacting the role of John The Baptist in the Holy Bible, preparing the way for the third coming of Nana Akufo-Addo, as NPP Presidential candidate, to the chagrin of the Kufuor bloc in the party.

The Herald is informed that Mr. Agyepong, executed the eviction of Dr. Bawumia, just a week after the dismissal of the Election Petition by the nine Supreme Court justices.

Also thrown out from the building, were the members of the pro-NPP group, Alliance For Good Governance (AFAG), whose main source of livelihood, is to collect money from businessmen, including illegal miners to mount undue political pressure on government in the name of advocacy.

It was also from the same office that verbally-endowed, Kwabena Agyepong used as his campaign office, when he contested the NPP flagbearership with sixteen other aspirants in 2007 at the NPP’s Delegate Congress, held inside the Great Hall, University of Ghana, Legon.

The source said, Mr. Agyepong did not serve any eviction notice on Dr. Bawumia, but instead marshaled some party boys believed to be his ardent supporters to throw out his belongings in the open, leaving them at mercy of the weather.

The property, christened Opata House, which shares a wall with Media Lynx Advertising Company, has been the place Nana Addo’s running mate and his loyalists have operated from, since he returned from his lucrative job with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) as its country representative in Zimbabwe.

The Herald learnt that Mr. Agyepong, had long ago wanted to evict Dr. Bawumia, but waited for the conclusion of the Election Petition at Supreme Court, filed by Nana Addo, Dr. Bawumia and the NPP National Chairman, Jake Obestebi-Lamptey.

Party insiders told The Herald that Mr. Agyepong intends using the office as his campaign headquarters to unseat Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie, alias “Sir John”, the current General Secretary of the NPP.

According to reports, staff of Dr. Bawumia have been squatting in and around the office area, since the eviction was carried out hoping their boss, Dr. Bawumia will secure another office to continue his political evangelism work for Nana Addo, who is currently cooling off in London, seeking the face of God, over his political future.

Confusion in the NPP has been heating up for some time now with the factions in the Ashanti Bloc and Akyem Bloc, also nicknamed “The Akyem Mafia” attacking one another, mainly over the un- marketability of the twice defeated NPP presidential candidate, Nana Addo.

The division is over whether or not to allow Nana Addo to lead the NPP again for the 2016 presidential race.

There is also a school of thought, who believes Dr. Bawumia, an economist must be made to step into the long shoes of his boss, by contesting for the 2016 NPP slot.

Last week Wednesday, September 25, posters were splashed , advertising the former banker’s bid for the NPP flagbearer position, along some principal streets of Accra.

The posters bore the portrait of Dr Bawumia with the NPP’s symbol of an elephant, as a logo at the top left corner, with the inscriptions “Bawumia for 2016”, sponsored by Friends of Dr. Bawumia.
