Ghanaian musician Kwabena Kwabena has expressed his disappointment with the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government, despite his active support for their campaign in 2016.

In an interview on Okay FM, Kwabena Kwabena vented his frustration with the current administration’s performance since they attained power.

He specifically criticised the president Akufo-Addo's silence regarding the worsening galamsey (illegal mining) issue in Ghana.

Kwabena Kwabena recalled Akufo-Addo’s strong commitment to tackle illegal mining and his vow to put his presidency on the line to address it.

“I am a man of integrity. Honestly, I am not happy with the performance of the government I campaigned for, especially the President,” he said.

“Look at our water bodies now. I supported and voted for Nana Addo because I saw him as a principled man who kept his word. I remember him saying he would put his presidency on the line over illegal mining. His statement was bold, and if he were in a European country, things might be different. Given the current state of our water bodies and his lack of address on the issue, I am deeply saddened,” he stated.

Meanwhile, the country has been battling illegal mining for years, and recent concerns from the Ghana Water Company Limited highlight the severe impact of these activities, with water supply issues in towns in the Central Region due to contamination from mining at River Pra.
