Kwabeng Presbyterian School gets an ICT Centre

Kwabeng, July, 18, GNA - Alhaji Mustapha Boateng, Managing Director of the Chocho Industries Limited, on Saturday handed over an Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Centre to the Kwabeng Presbyterian schools.

The building of the ICT centre which has 20 computers and their accessories was funded by Alhaji Mustapha Boateng and his family. At the handing over and dedication ceremony at Kwabeng, Alhaji Mustapha Boateng said the gesture was aimed at making students from the are to become ICT literate to enable them to know what is going on around them He said education was the pivot of development and it would be important for civil society and individuals to contribute meaningfully to its development.

Alhaji Boateng gave the assurance that he would continue to support education in the area so that the current generation would not be a burden to society.

He said he had planned to donate a photocopier machine and printer to the school to facilitate the printing of examination questions and other exercises, which are always done outside.

The Chairperson of the Akyem Abuakwa Presbytery of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Reverend Patrick Kwabena Dekyem, who dedicated the centre, commended the donor and urged other individuals from the area to emulate him.

He said Alhaji Boateng although a Muslim did not discriminate against the Christian religion and said it was important for all religious organizations to see each other as neighbours to ensure peace. Rev Dekyem urged the school authorities to ensure that the centre was used for the purpose for which it was built in order to benefit the school children and the community.

The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Atiwa, Mr Atta Twum, commended Alhaji Mustapha Boateng for the gesture and said he would ensure that educational infrastructure in the area were improved. The DCE announced that each school in the district would be provided with a library and connected to the national electricity grid to help raise the standards of education. Mr Atta Twum urged the school authorities to take good care of the centre in order to help prolong its life span. 18 July 09
