Mamponteng (Ash), Nov. 7, GNA - Dr Krobea Asante, Assembly Member for Ankaase-East, was on Thursday re-elected Presiding Member (PM) of the Kwabre District Assembly for another two-year term at the meeting of the Assembly at Mamponteng.

He polled 48 votes out of the 55 votes cast to secure the two-third votes required to confirm him as PM at the third round of voting, conducted by the Electoral Commission (EC).

The Assembly could not elect a new PM when they met last month. The Assembly, therefore, resolved at last Thursday's meeting that a contestant with the least votes would have to step down for the two with the highest votes to continue.

In the first round, Dr Asante had 30 votes, while Mr Oppong Kyei Baffour, Assembly Member for Asonomaso polled 15 votes with Mr Samuel Boakye-Ansah, Member for Kenyase, polling 10 votes.

With Mr Boakye-Ansah out of the race, Dr Asante polled 38 votes while his opponent; Mr Kyei Baffour had 16 votes at the second round. This called for a third round even though Mr Kyei Baffour stepped down, and when it was conducted to ensure that Dr Asante had the two-thirds majority, he polled 48 votes with seven votes against. Addressing the members after the elections, Alhaji Ahmed Akwasi Yeboah, Kwabre District Chief Executive, commended the members for the successful election.

He said he was optimistic that members would continue to accord Dr Asante the needed respect and cooperation.

Dr Asante thanked members and urged them to unite for the rapid development of the District. 07 Nov. 04
