Kwaebibirem DCE calls for co-operation

Kade, April 28, GNA - The Kwaebibirem District Chief Executive, Mr George Agyemang Duah, has called for greater support and co-operation from his people to enable him run an effective administration. He told the members of the District Assembly that with his endorsement, he hoped all opposing persons and groups would throw their weight behind him to plan effectively to develop the district.

Addressing the press after his confirmation, Mr Duah said they should all unite in pursuit of a common goal and work as a team to improve the quality of life of the people.

Prior to his approval, Mr Duah's nomination by President Atta Mills was characterized by protests at Kade and Akwatia, the two constituencies that form the Kwaebibirem District.

The situation at Akwatia turned ugly when the National Democratic Congress (NDC) supporters vandalized the party's constituency office and burnt down furniture and several other items in the office. The aggrieved party members, who clad in red and wielding placards and sticks amidst chanting of war songs, took their protest to the District Assembly at Kade on Monday to call for the postponement of the election. Mr Duah, however, managed to sail through when he polled 56 out of a total of 77 votes cast.

He observed that a "house divided against itself cannot stand" adding that since the common enemy of people is under development, they should put behind the past and forge ahead in unity to attain their set goals. Mr Duah promised to work to heal whatever rift his appointment might have created particularly within the National Democratic Congress party.

He described the disagreement within the party as a family affair, which had to be settled amicably and quickly, so that the big task ahead to develop the district could be tackled by all. He said his "doors" were wide open to receive everybody with open arms. 28 April 09
