Mr Isaac Mensah, the Kwahu East District Director of Agriculture said District Assembly would soon start registering farmers for the first phase of the government's 'Rearing for Food and Jobs' programme in the District.
He said the Department was looking forward to register 20 farmers who would want to go into livestock rearing to produce parent stock for the necessary support for the implementation of the RFJ programme.
Speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Abetifi in the Kwahu East District of the Eastern Region, he said the programme would start with piggery and cockerels where each farmer would be given two of the livestock as a start-up.
Beneficiary farmers, he added, would then be supported by the department in the form of skill development and trainings to enable them adopt modern techniques in increasing their livestock at the end of the programme.
He said improved feeds and veterinary services would also be provided to beneficiary farmers by the government through the Agricultural Department at a subsidy for farmers so that they can take good care of the animals.
He urged the farmers especially the youth to embrace the programme so that they could create employment for themselves and others.
