Kwahu West District Assembly draws a three-year development plan

Nkawkaw, Dec. 20, GNA-The Kwahu West District Assembly has drawn up a 50 billion cedis three-year medium term development plan. The plan would guide the district to implement a number of projects and programmes under the private sector, human resource development and good governance programme of government to enhance development of the newly created district. The plan would be funded from the assembly's share of the District Assembly's Common Fund, donor agencies and internally generated revenue of the assembly.

Addressing Assembly Members, Heads of Departments and other stake- holders at a day's workshop to finalize the preparation of the plan at Nkawkaw, the District Planning Officer of the Assembly, Mr Edward Nyarko Oware said the objectives of the plan was to move the district to a municipal status at the end of the implementation period. The plan was also to guide the assembly to construct a district hospital with an accident unit to cater for the high number of accident victims on the Accra - Kumasi highway and the construction of a solid and liquid waist processing plant to ensure environmental cleanliness in the area. He said effective programme have been made under the plan to modernize agriculture which employed over 60 percent of the district's population, improve education and health needs of the people, construct urban and feeder roads, improve water and electricity supply to the various communities as well as to create employment to the large number of unemployed youth in the district.

Mr Oware said the 80,000 population of Nkawkaw township alone qualified the district to a municipal status but needed some infrastructural development which would be carted for under the medium term plan. He said the plan was drawn by a planning team who visited all the five urban town and area councils to sort the views and needs of the people in the communities before coming out with the plan.

The District Co-ordinating Director, Mr Adjei Boahene advised all assembly members and other stake holders to contribute to ensure effective implementation of the plan to move the district forward. He urged the assembly members to co-operate with revenue collectors to increase the internally generated revenue of the assembly to implement the plan since all the electoral areas will benefit from the plan to improve the living standard of the people. Mr Adjei said the medium term plan will be presented to the assembly for approval before implementation.
