Accra, Feb. 2, GNA - Miss Evelyn Mantey, complainant in the case in which Kwaku Baah, legal practitioner, and one other are jointly charged with assault and causing damage to property, on Thursday told the City Engineers Magistrate's Court at James Town that Baah slapped her at her salon at Sakaman.

Led in evidence by Chief Inspector Robert Kwadwo Owusu, Miss Mantey, who is also the first prosecution witness in the case, told the Court that on Saturday, November 12, 2005, when the two accused persons entered her salon, Baah held her, told her that she was stubborn and slapped her.

Baah and Alberta Coffie, a trader and Ms Mantey's landlady, were on January 19 put before the Court on charges of assault and damage to property.

They have both pleaded not guilty to the charges and are on a 10 million-cedi bail each.

The Witness told the Court presided over by Miss Audrey Edem Kocuvi Tay that Baah then pushed her to Alberta Coffie and told her in Ga to beat her up.

Witness told the Court that when she asked what she had done, the two accused persons started pushing her until she fell down and became unconscious.

Mantey said when she regained consciousness a good Samaritan first took her to a Police station and then to hospital. Answering questions under cross-examination from Mr B. B. Quaye, counsel for the accused persons, Miss Mantey told the Court that there was no land case pending in Court between her and Coffie. Miss Mantey said she was, however, served with a document by Coffie, who only told her that it was a summons from Baah alleging that she (Mantey) had insulted him.

Asked by Counsel whether she had the document with her in court, Witness replied in the negative, saying that it was with her counsel. Asked further whether her Lawyer had explained the contents of the document to her, Mantey replied in the negative. The Court adjourned to Thursday, February 16 2006.
