Kwamankese gets new JSS block

Kwamankese (C/R) Aug. 25 GNA- The Ayeldu Circuit Supervisor of the Ghana Education Service (GES), Mr Edward K. Quarshie, on Tuesday inaugurated a three- classroom Junior Secondary School block at Kwamankese, in the Abura- Asebu- Kwamankese District, valued at 200 million cedis. The District Assembly financed the project with its share of the District Assemblies' Common Fund.

Mr Quarshie also performed a sod-cutting ceremony for the construction of a six-unit Teachers' Quarters, being funded by the Social Investment Fund, at the cost of 259 million cedis. The occasion, formed part of activities marking the annual Eguesuon festival of the chiefs and people.

Mrs Aku Fiakponu, the District Director of Education, said in a speech read on her behalf, that a number of brilliant but needy students in the District had benefited from a scholarship scheme initiated by the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFUND).

The Assembly member for the area, Mr Edward Quarshie, requested the Government to tar the Afrangua- Kwamankese- Ayeldu feeder road, to ensure easy movement of passengers and goods. He commended Plan Ghana, a non-governmental organisation, for helping to extend potable water to the community. The Twafohene of Kwamankese Traditional Area, Nana Eduan Nsempa VIII, expressed concern about the fallen standards of education in the area and called on the GES to help reverse the situation.
