Kwame Nkrumah Ideological Institute talks on Africa

The Kwame Nkrumah Ideological institute has asked African leaders to convey an emergency meeting to address the present atrocious happenings on the continent.

It said the economic situation in Africa, which is urging most of the youth to adopt unconventional means to travel to Europe and other places outside Africa to seek greener pastures and which in most cases cost them their lives should be on the agenda.

“Indeed they should learn from some of the Asian countries like Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, China, Singapore and others,” a statement issued in Accra on Friday by Mr Ben Anyagre, Interim Secretary of the institute and copied to Ghana News Agency said.

“Our leaders become helpless when some hot heads in some parts of Africa, kill people at will, destroy property and over-thrown government.

“They need seriously to strengthen the Union of African States in its true sense as proposed by Ghana’s first President, Dr Kwame Nkrumah,” it said.

The statement said Dr Nkrumah warned against events taking place in Africa, adding that unless the leaders go back to consider seriously his wise proposals, “Africa will be in ruins very soon”.

It said the leaders of Africa must consider the formation of African High Command, Pan African Police, Customs, Immigration, Fire, Prisons, Chamber of Commerce to be followed by Federation of African states if they fear an outright Union of African States.

“The leaders must also create a Central Financial Bank to take over the activities of the World Bank and International Monetary Fund (IMF).

“The African Development Bank (ADB) should be considered and strengthened to play that role so that instead of the IMF and the World Bank, African States could go to ADB for the solution of their financial problems.”

The statement said in his recent address to the UN General Assembly, President John Dramani Mahama hit the nail on the head when he said: “Africa needs no sympathy but partnership with all nations.”

It said leaders must also consider seriously a self reliant policy and to rely on their own resources to promote their economic growth and the development of their states and Africa in general.

The statement said: “It is very sad that with all our mineral and other resources we are poor and go to seek loans from the neo-colonialist and imperialist countries who take advantage of our plight to cheat us, and continue to use our continent to supply raw materials to feed their industries.

“The Geological Survey Department must be made to produce the map of Ghana which Dr Nkrumah commissioned the Russians to prepare, spotting all the mineral deposits in Ghana from Wa – Keta so as to be explored to help employment of the youth and to ensure Ghana’s economic independence.

“The government must also revive all industries which were abandoned after Dr Nkrumah’s over throw. No matter whether it has been sold or not. Additionally, an act of parliament should be considered to reverse all state properties bought cheaply by some individuals.

“As soon as possible there should be a High Command meeting of all top Military Commanders in Africa to consider how to combat terrorist activities in Africa and to ensure peace in the continent,” it said.

The statement said the existence of any terrorist group in Africa must be eliminated by military action.
