THE MINISTER responsible for the newly created regional economic integration, MR. Kwamena Ahwoi, has conceded that this years election will not be easy for the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) and called on party supporters to work hard if they are to ensure their stay in power.
He has therefore warned that any delegate who would vote contrary to the resolution being adopted in the various constituencies to endorse Prof. Atta Mills as their presidential candidate at the Ho Congress would be banished from the party since such an action could derail the party?s avowed goal of winning the December polls.
Kwamena Ahwoi was speaking at the extraordinary regional conference of the party held at Sekondi-Takoradi last week where they unanimously endorsed Prof. Mills as the party?s presidential candidate.
According to the Minister it has become hackneyed to see workers especially nurses, doctors and teachers going on perfidious strike in every election year thereby putting pressure on the economy.
Citing, statistics to back his claim, Ahwoi said in most of the cases these workers try to compel the government to pump more money into the system which also ended up spoiling the economy after the election with high inflation rates.
Minister Ahwoi also used the occasion to comment on his new role as a minister responsible for the regional economic integration which according to him a section of the people saw as his demotion.
?Recently I had to run away from the country because of the series of publications going on that I have been demoted,? he said.
He explained, ?I was among the team that took the decision that I should be posted from the local government to the new ministry and also personally wrote the announcement to that effect which came on the air and in the print, but the way the publications were coming out, I nearly thought that I was tricked to accept the new post.?
According to him he considers his new role as a promotion since he was no more going to travel to Wa or Bolga, but to Mali, Ivory Coast among others.
A national give chair person of the party, Madam Faustina Nelson, on her part, said NDC would never allow NPP to win any election in the country.
She said so far NPP has not been able to fault Veep Mills, adding that they have made the right choice which could propel them to victory in the December election.
Faustina Nelson further told the enthusiastic supporters to be proud of being members of the NDC.
Chaired by the regional chairman, Mr. Felix Asamoah the conference also saw in attendance Mr. Ato Ahwoi, Kwesi Ahwoi and the regional Minister, Esther Nkansah.
