Kweku Baako compares Akufo-Addo’s 88 new hospitals to Mahama’s 200 e-blocks, expresses doubts

Constructing 88 hospitals in 12 months is not only ‘overly ambitious’ but also a task too huge to accomplish, veteran journalist, Kweku Baako has said.

Ghanaians were shell-shocked last Sunday as the President, who critics say has done little to finish existing projects, announced plans to construct a staggering 88 new health facilities within one year.

Since the declaration, opposition party members and some civil service organizations have raised questions about the ability of the government to deliver on its promise and within the said time frame.

The persistent demand for answers to these questions prompted the Health Minister to attempt a detailed address on how the government intends to see through its promise.

Despite the Minister’s address, doubts continue to linger as members of the National Democratic Congress continue to question the feasibility of the promise.

As the two political parties continue their not unusual banter, Kweku Baako, has offered a stance dissenting to that of the government.

Baako on Peace FM’s Krokoo’s show expressed doubt about the ability of government to deliver this pledge.

Baako labelled the promise as ‘overly ambitious and likened it to the community day Senior High School promise made by the erstwhile Mahama administration.

“I feel it’s a bit ambitious. You might even say its overly ambitious. I’m not saying its mission impossible but it’s very ambitious. It’s the same attitude I adopted towards the 200 e-blocks. I consistently made a point that even if they build 50, I will credit them with something”.

“The e-blocks was in the same framework, as in they targeted districts that were underserved or had no school at all. The underlying principle in this one is the same. But my candid opinion is that by 12 months, I’m not sure all would have been completed. They might have started all but we may not complete all”, he said
