Black Stars coach James Kwesi Appiah has expressed surprise at reports that he was attacked in traffic somewhere in East Legon, Accra on Wednesday.

“I am surprised to hear a story published by the website that I have been attacked by a fan while driving in East Legon,” he is quoted as saying.

“I seriously do not know where that story is coming from because nothing of that sort has happened to me, besides I have not even driven around that area today.”

The reports said the under-fire coach was attacked by a football fan for his charges’ abysmal performance at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.

Ghana were eliminated in the Round of 16 by fourth-placed Tunisia.

The four-time champions have made it past the quarter-final on a record six consecutive occasions.

Many have called for the head of coach, who is at the helm on a second spell.

There has been a social media campaign to have him sacked.

Already, he has failed to deliver on the mandates given him – to qualify Ghana to the 2018 World Cup and win the 2019 Cup of Nations.

But there are reports of a possible extension of his mandate.

This may have angered some fans.

“I don’t know whoever is behind those false stories published about me but I can tell you that no one has attacked me in traffic.”
