Kwesi Botchwey To Address African Finance Ministers

The conference of African Ministers of Finance, Planning and Economic Development opens in Johannesburg, South Africa on Saturday with the election of a new chairman to replace the outgoing chairman, Algeria’s Finance Minister. The conference, taking place under the aegis of the UN Economic Commission for Africa will review the challenges of Africa’s new economic blue print- NEPAD. Former Finance Minister, Dr Kwesi Botchwey is also attending the conference.

He will present a paper on the actions required to address the challenges of African development in order to realize the objectives of NEPAD. Dr Botchwey’s presentation would be based on the report of the panel of eminent personalities appointed by UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan, for an independent evaluation of the world body’s New Agenda for the Development of Africa. Other speakers at the three-day conference include, Callisto Madavo, Vice President, Africa Region of the World Bank and Professor Wiseman Nkuhlu, Chairman of the NEPAD Steering Committee.
