Managing Editor of the Insight Newspaper, Kwesi Pratt Jnr has patted the Mills Administration for its impressive record in the past three and a half years.
He says judging from projects and programs being undertaken under the Mills Administration in the past years including those that were left uncompleted under erstwhile Kufuor administration, President Mills and his team have shown strong commitment toward development of the country. Kwesi Pratt Jnr was speaking on the Big Interview on the ‘Situation Room’, a Current Affairs program on PRAVDA RADIO last Thursday.
Making particular reference to the school-feeding program which was revived by the Kufuor Administration, Mr. Pratt observed that the Mills government upon gaining power, has been able to streamline and expanded it to cover all government schools across the country.
“If you look at school feeding program which was introduced by the Kufuor administration, the idea was not new, it was a program which had been started by the Nkrumah government, it was abandoned and yet it was brought back again under the Kufuor Administration”. “The Mills Administration came to power and has continued with the school feeding program and has even actually streamlined it and expanded it”.
According to him, the Metro Mass Transit, a replica of the Omni Bus Services Authority which existed in Nkrumah regime has been improved substantially under the Mills Administration.
“The Metro Mass Transit which existed in the Nkrumah regime under the Omni Bus Services Authority was abandoned, it was destroyed, I think it was Acheampong or Liman who brought about the Tata buses and tried to revise it. President Kufuor came and established the metro mass transit. This administration came and improved it substantially”.
Mr. Kwesi Pratt who publicly endorsed president Mills’ candidature in the 2008 general election however denied having any soft- spot for the ruling National Democratic Congress. He noted that as citizens we need to take positions of principle and try to amplify both good and bad aspects of political parties.
“I don’t think rigid partisanship is good for the country. I believe absolutely that the good things in all the parties need to be amplified and where possible, the bad things in all the parties also need to be amplified; we need to take positions of principles, and that’s what I try to do. Fortunately or unfortunately, all the major political contenders in the country have been my friends and I’ve known them quiet closely”.
Touching on the leadership aspect of the two main political heads in the country, President John Evans Atta Mills and NPP flagbearer, Nana Addo Danquah Akuffo Addo, he hinted that both have exhibited enough leadership prowess which seem to suggest that they are capable of leading the country. Meanwhile, he doubted if Nana Addo, with his strong point will be able to lead country.
“There are few things you can say about the Mills administration. Some of the records have been quiet impressive but we have few months to go and we can still wait. Nana Addo is a major team player that is his strong point. All the time I have worked with him, he never took a decision without adequate consultation with the people on the team, but whether that is sufficient to make a leader of a nation is another matter; but Nana certainly has his strong point”.**
