Kwesi Pratt reacts to NPP's alleged 'wee' sharing at Ejisu

The Managing Editor of the Insight newspaper, Kwesi Pratt Jnr has responded to allegations of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), sharing marijuana (wee) to some individuals during the by-elections in the Ejisu constituency.

He questioned why members of the ruling government would resort to distributing marijuana, a substance that has not been legalized in the country, to some of the youth in a bid to get their votes.

The Managing Editor of the Insight newspaper fumed at the recent trend in which political parties deploy desperate tactics in the quest to win elections, adding that it does not speak well of democracy.

Pratt stated that he is horrified by the events that characterized the Ejisu by-elections, especially the marijuana allegations.

"What about the allegation that a political party was actually distributing marijuana (wee)? What about that? Because, as far as I know, the consumption of that substance is still illegal. I know that it has been legalized in many countries. As of now, in Ghana, it is only when they get high that they can help rig elections.

“What does that mean? Get high and help rig elections. I am really horrified by what has happened in Ejisu,” he commented while speaking on Metro TV and monitored by GhanaWeb.

Pratt made those comments after reports were rife that some members of the NPP distributed marijuana to some constituents to influence their voting decisions in the party’s favor.

The NPP candidate, Kwabena Boateng, defeated his closest contender, who is an independent candidate, Kwabena Owusu Aduomi, in the by-elections to retain the parliamentary seat for the party.

The elections were held to find a replacement for the late John Kumah, who was the incumbent Member of Parliament.
