Ace Journalist Kwesi Pratt Junior was one of the main opponents of the attempted union between the New Patriotic Party and the Convention People’s Party in the run-up to the 1992 elections, a former member of the CPP Freddie Blay has revealed.

“I was always insisting that we need to cooperate with the two traditions.

“I insisted on the CPP and NPP coming together and I even insisted that the CPP can’t make it on its own. I did say that I would prefer for the CPP to make more gains in parliament and it’s painful that people did not understand it.

“Some said they would want to do it alone. Kwesi Pratt and the rest. Kwesi said we would win in Tamale, we would this ….but I told them we can’t do that; we should agree to work with the NPP,” the now first Vice Chair of the NPP told Bola Ray on Starr Chat Wednesday.

Numerous attempts for a collaboration between the CPP and the main opposition New Patriotic Party ahead of the 1992 elections fell on rocks.

The former first deputy speaker of parliament also noted that he had always wanted to join the NPP even when he was with the Nkrumahist party.

“I couldn’t have won Elembele without the support of the NPP. They supported me immediately I went to parliament they gave me the job of first deputy speaker.

“I prefer to be with them (NPP) because my own inclination of freedom of expression for liberal economy lies with the NPP than the CPP,” he noted.
