The Member of Parliament (MP) for Kwesimintsim Constituency in the Western Region, Mr. Joseph Mensah has presented items worth 45,000 Ghana Cedis to his Constituents to support the fight against the spread of Coronavirus pandemic.
The items included; alcoholic-based hand, liquid soaps, hand gloves, nose marks, Veronica buckets with stands, washing bowls, dustbins, tissue papers and other Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs) to help prevent the outbreak and spread of COVID-19 in the Constituency and the Region as a whole.
The donation was made in phases which mainly focused on Party Delegates, Constituency Executives, Council of Elders and Patrons. All market centers, Lorry Stations, Hospitals, Police Stations and Public Institutions in the Kwesimintim Constituency.
Additionally, the Kwesimintsim MP also contributed 10,000 Ghana Cedis to support the donation made to the Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital last week by the five MPs within Sekondi-Takoradi to support the facility curtail the spread of coronavirus pandemic in the country.
In an interview with GhanaWeb's Western Regional Correspondent, Mr. Joseph Meneabe said the gesture was to collaborate with authorities of the various health facilities within his area, leaders of the market places and transport terminals to caution the public about the deadly nature of coronavirus.
He said it was very paramount on the side of every Ghanaian citizen to observe the handwashing protocols and social distancing.
To this end, the MP pledged his readiness to spend more to support COVID-19 fight and advised the constituents to strictly adhere to all precautionary measures against the pandemic.
The Effia-Kwesimintsim Municipal Health Director, Dr. Joyce K. Bagina Sutherland who received the items on behalf of Kwesimintim Hospital and other health centres expressed appreciation to the MP for the kind gesture.
She, therefore, promised to use the items to protect the staff and clients and also control and stop the spread of COVID-19 pandemic.
The Market Queen of Apremdo Market, Madam Charity Esi Eshun who received the items on behalf of the market women thanked the MP for showing so much concern for their safety.
Western Region has recorded its first case of Coronavirus.
However, the country has recorded 566 confirmed cases with 8 deaths.
