Mr. Alan John Kwadwo Kyeremanteng, one of the leading contenders in the NPP flagbearership race was prevented from entering the Yendi constituency to meet with party executives and delegates as part of his fifteen days tour of the three regions of the north.
This is as a result of his decision to go pay a courtesy call on the Regent of Dagbon. The incident happened at Kulkpeni duli, a suburb of Yendi where party supporters were to usher Mr. Kyeremanteng and his team to the Yendi Township.
Zakariah Alhassan Nachinaa, an assembly member and an NPP youth activist in the Yendi constituency told journalists the party’s youth pre-warned the constituency executives never to allow any of the NPP Presidential hopefuls go pay a courtesy call on the Regent of Dagbon.
He explained that the decision was arrived at, at a meeting after the arrest of ten members of the Abudu royal gate, including Mba Dugu Iddrisu Iddi, caretaker of the Boling-Lana where it was concluded that none of the NPP big wigs should visit the Kampakuya-Naa’s palace.
According to him, Mr. Kyeremanteng’s attention was drawn to that directive but the NPP Presidential hopeful declined to comply. This, the NPP youth activist said incurred the wrath of the teeming crowd at the entry point where they destroyed Mr. Kyeremanteng’s posters and threatened to destroy his vehicles should the convoy get to the Yendi Township.
A source close to Mr. Kyeremanteng’s campaign team complained that the NPP Presidential hopeful was not happy with that development because his team found it extremely difficult to visit other constituencies in the northern region believed to be Abudu dominated areas.
The NPP Presidential hopeful’s posters have since been destroyed in both Yendi and the Mion constituencies as a result of what appeared to be his decision to go pay a courtesy call on the Regent of Dagbon.
