Members of the Coalition of La Youth Association have threatened that, they will resist attempts by the military to construct a statue of the late Major Maxwell Mahama on their land.
The Association explained that, they are fighting the move because the military wants to hide behind the construction of the statue in honour of the slain officer, to take over their land to set up a U.S. army base.
Their full statement is captured below
THE COALITION OF LA YOUTH ASSOCIATION ON BEHALF OF THE 7 CLANS AND THE LA STATE AS WHOLE WISH TO EXPRESS OUR DISPLEASURE FOR
The attempt to use a MAJOR MAHAMA STATUE they intend to put at the entrance to an illegal Military Cemetery believed to be the US Military Base tomorrow as pretext to steal La Lands will be resisted.
The Ghana Army is trying to hide behind the said Major Mahama statue to steal La Land for the ill-fated US military base.
The Army has camouflaged the US military base, citing the unpopular base behind a fake military cemetery to be heavily guarded by Ghanaian military personnel while American military officers, civilian contractors, spies etc., use the ‘Affected Area’ (thousands of acres) between the Airport and Burma Camp as their base.
The La Chiefs have cautioned the CDS to stop allowing the Defense Minister, Dominic Nitiwul to continue with the attempt to clandestinely takeover La Lands using military as cover with the connivance of some military officers and the Lands Commission.
The military cemetery which Dominic Nitiwul claimed was constructed to stop encroachment on military lands by the former President and others in a radio interview last year, has been denounced by the Municipal Assembly which said that the military cemetery was unauthorised and illegal, as it is in breach of their regulations and byelaws, done on their blindside.
The La Traditional Council is taking steps to stop tomorrow’s intended statue mounting ceremony and burying of dead bodies at the illegal cemetery located next to Chain Homes, a private real estate development.
The CDS wrote a disrespectful commanding letter inviting the chiefs to the event which they have rejected and referred to their lawyers for necessary action.
It will be recalled that the La Mantse has written two (2) separate petitions concerning the clandestine stealing of La lands by the Ghana army, some military officers and the Lands Commission, with the most recent addressed to the Commander-in-Chief of the Ghana army and copied the National Peace Council, Christian Council etc., all of whom [including the President] have kept a stony silence while urging the military, Nitiwul and others to continue with the looting of the La lands.
The La Youth have informed the military and the Defense Minister of their intent to resist/disrupt any event, ceremony or project by the military on the La lands.
THE COALITION OF THE LA YOUTH ORG ON BEHALF OF THE LA STATE WITH DUE RESPECT WISH TO USE THIS MEDUIM TO TELL THE COMMANDER IN CHIEF OF THE GHANA ARMED FORCES TO PUT HIS HOUSE IN ORDER BY CALLING OFF THE SAID CEREMONY TOMORROW AND TAKE A THE NECESSARY ACTION TO ADDRESS THE PETITIONS BY THE LA MANTSE
