Today’s discourse on Newsfile will focus on the Minority in Parliament who have protested against the date set for the vetting of Justice of the Supreme Court, Kwasi Anin-Yeboah.

According to the members of the Minority, they won’t take part in the scheduled vetting of the Chief Justice nominee on December 21, 2019 accusing the Chairman of the Appointment’s Committee, First Deputy Speaker, Joseph Osei Owusu, of unilaterally setting the date, against standard practice.

Although the leader of the Minority, Haruna Iddrisu, has insisted that his side are not against the nomination, they (Minority) would hold dear the “principle of a strong, independent and diligent Parliament devoid of rubber stamp tendencies.”

Retiring Chief Justice, Sophia Akuffo has stated that standards within the legal system must never be allowed to drop.

She said during a thanksgiving service held in her honour that, she will continue to watch from the sidelines to ensure the rule of law is not breached.

In her words, “Even from the sidelines, I am going to still be very critical on our standards because as for standards we must never let them drop. When you let standards drop, then we begin to get rotten.”

Also, Joy FM’s revisit of revolutionary atrocities, the National Reconciliation Commission investigations into the bloody secrets of dictatorial unconstitutional regimes, and other matters arising will also be discussed on today’s edition of Newsfile on Joynews.
