The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, has arrived for the second day of the parliamentary sitting to conduct parliamentary business, following the end of the 2024 Election.

The lawmakers are expected to discuss some pressing issues before the 8th Parliament dissolves in a few weeks.

This is the House's second sitting after the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, adjourned the current meeting of Parliament sine die (indefinitely), for a second time in less than a month on November 7, 2024, due to the House not forming a quorum for decision making.

Speaker Alban Bagbin, in a statement dated December 2, 2024, summoned Members of Parliament for the sitting on Monday, December 16.

The order is in accordance with Article 112(3) of the 1992 Constitution of Ghana and Order 5 of the Standing Orders of Parliament.

This sitting comes after the humiliating defeat suffered by the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the 2024 general election with the party losing more than 40 of its seats.

One of the major bones of contention before the adjournment was which political party formed the Majority Caucus and which formed the Minority Caucus, after the declaration of four seats in the House vacant by Speaker Bagbin.
