The Police administration has indicated that over 20 demonstrators arrested in today’s demonstration are being processed for court.

The Director-General in charge of police operations, COP John Kudalor, says those arrested are being held in contempt of court and will face prosecution.

Speaking in an interview with Accra-based Citi FM on Wednesday evening, COP Kudalor denied accusations that the police manhandled the protestors insisting that the act by the Police was only to prevent the riotous behavior of the group, describing the intended peaceful march as rather “a sweet and sour event”

The violent encounter with the Police by the LMVCA protesters have left many sustaining various degrees of injuries, including NPP stalwart Gabby Otchere-Darko.

The Police arrested LMVCA head, David Asante and others for flouting guidelines set for them.

The demonstration on Wednesday which was in support of the call for a new voters register ahead of the 2016 election ended abruptly, after the police fired tear gas, water cannon and beat some protesters who tried to go to the Electoral Commission.

The police had cordoned off the premises of the EC as they described the enclave as a security zone.
