Accra, July 21, GNA - Mr Oscar Odoi Glover, New Patriotic Party (NPP) Parliamentary Candidate for La Dadekotopon Constituency, on Thursday said La deserved to be accorded a Municipal Assembly status. He said he would pursue the agenda to its logical conclusion when voted as Member of Parliament for the area.

Mr Glover made the statement when he addressed a cross-section of NPP polling agents and sympathizers at La Girls' School Electoral Area, where they had met to discuss the party's way forward in the 2012 election.

A special house-to-house campaign programme was launched with the code named: 93Operation Baby Elephant Walk".

Mr Glover, who is a businessman, said La has the human and the material resources, which could be used to manage its own affairs to hasten the development of the area.

He noted that in terms of population, physical infrastructure and geographical land stretch, La deserves to be elevated to municipal status rather than its present position as a sub-metro status.

"We have the Trade Fair, Airport, La Palm Hotel, La Pleasure Beach, banks and a host of businesses in our mist, which qualifies us to earn the municipal status," he added.

He promised to establish business entities in the six electoral areas to create jobs for the youth.

Mr Glover said the La old market was built in 1927 and had now become dilapidated, disclosing that an 11 million-dollar World Bank support to change it into a state-of-the-art two storey market, had been on the drawing board for over eight years.

"I would pursue the World Bank money to kick-start the market project and all other laudable programmes that would benefit the people of La when given the nod as MP," he stressed.

He said through his effort and the support of the traditional authorities of La, the 15 years protracted chieftaincy dispute, which had retarded progress and development of the place was near completion.

"By God's willing we will be celebrating this year's La Homowo festival in grand style to ensure that there is total peace and unity among the people of La," he added.
