La wins Homofest food competition

The La community has been adjudged the winner of the Homogeneous Festival Food Competition held in Accra.

The Competition, which involved 12 communities from the Ga-Dangbe was to showcase the different type of foods prepared by the people.

Teshie community came second, whiles Ga Mashie community came third.

The Homogeneous Festival dubbed: "Homofest" 2015, was instituted last year by the Ministry of Tourism Culture and Creative Arts, as part of measures to promote domestic tourism.

It is also aimed at fostering unity among Ga-Dangbes, in addition to creating awareness among the indigenes, whiles promoting their food, dance and music.

The Festival is also part of the Ministry's 'Explore Ghana' project, which has the sole objective of promoting Domestic tourism.

Mrs Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, the Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts in an interview with Ghana News Agency during the competition said "we need to promote our food as Ghanaians to promote tourism."

She said the competition was also to communicate with Ghanaian to eat home grown foods to promote domestication.

She said the competition would also help improve on the relationship among the various communities in Ga-Dangbe.

She expressed the hope that going forward, the Ministry would be able to add one or two regions to the festival to continue to develop and promote the cultures for national cohesion.

Mrs Emmelia Tagoe, a Representative of Promasidor, manufacturers of Onga, said the company was happy to associate itself with the event to promote food tourism.

She assured organizers that Promasidor would continue to support the festival in the coming years.

Other communities that took part in the competition are Nungua, Osu, Osudoku, Tema, Dodowa, Ada, Kpone and Ningo.
