The owner of Labianca Company Limited, one of the largest frozen food importers in West Africa, Eunice Jacqueline Buah Asomah-Hinneh, is reportedly dead.

According to a news report by citinewsroom.com, Eunice Buah, the Western Regional representative on the Council of State, died after a short illness.

Several reports also indicated that she recently returned to Ghana after seeking treatment abroad.

The death of Eunice Buah, a native of Nzema, has sent shockwaves through the Ahanta land.

The owner of Labianca Company Limited was also a financier of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).

It can be recalled that the late Eunice Buah made headlines after the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) accused her of corruption-related offences.

The report by the OSP alleged that she used her position as a member of the Council of State to secure favourable tax treatment for her frozen foods business with the help of some officials of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), including Col. Kwadwo Damoah and Deputy Commissioner of Customs Joseph Adu Kyei.

The High Court in Accra, however, quashed portions of the Office of the Special Prosecutor’s (OSP) report, which had found wrongdoing by two individuals—Kwadwo Damoah and Joseph Adu Kyei—in the Labianca case.

The court also ordered the OSP to pay GHC10,000 in costs, marking a significant turn in the case.
