Labourer assaults woman over toilet tolls

Kade, June 17, GNA - George Kennedy, a labourer who allegedly assaulted Madam Esi Mansa, a 65-year-old woman over toilet tolls appeared before the Kade District Magistrate's Court. Kennedy pleaded not guilty to unlawful and intentional assault and was granted GH¢100 bail with a surety to re-appear on June 25. Prosecuting, Police Inspector D.T. Nartey, told the court that Kennedy who claimed to be the Unit Committee Chairman at Akwatia New Town had taken over the public toilet and employed Madam Mansa to collect the toilet-tolls.

He for sometime Madam Mansa collected GH¢30 and gave it to Kennedy but he gave nine Ghana cedis out of the money to the assembly member for the area who was actually in charge of the toilet. The prosecution said the assembly member later had information about the transaction and invited Madam Mansa and Kennedy for a meeting on the issue on April 18.

He said after Madam Mansa had informed the assembly member that she gave GH¢30 and not nine Ghana cedis to Kennedy, he (Kennedy) became angry and pounced on the old woman and beat her up. The prosecution said Madam Mansa received severe injuries and was rushed to Saint Dominic Hospital at Akwatia where she was admitted, a report was made to the police, Kennedy was arrested and after investigations charged with the offence.
