Juaso (Ash), June 24, GNA - An 18 year old farm labourer from Praaso in the Asante-Akim North District whose attempt to rape a married woman in the bush was met with fierce resistance when the victim held his male organ and pulled to his discomfort, has been jailed for 10 years by a circuit court at Juaso.

Awunani Kanjaga pleaded guilty to attempted rape.

Prosecuting, Chief Inspector Stephen Opare told the court presided over by Mr Jacob Boon that on June 6, this year, at about 15 hours the victim who was selling her wares in the village, got to the accused person's house, greeted him and left.

He said the accused followed up and told her that he had three bunches of plantain, which he was offering for sale. The victim who sold plantains agreed to buy and the accused accompanied her to a nearby bush where he brought the foodstuffs for the woman to see.

As the victim bent down to inspect the plantain, to assess the quality and to bargain for the price, accused booted her down, forcibly removed her underwear, undressed himself and as he was about to rape the woman she held his genitals and pulled hard, Chief Inspector Opare told the court.

He said another man who arrived on the scene saved Kanjaga from further punishment as the woman released her hold on his male organ on seeing him.

The prosecution said while the man held Kanjaga, the victim run to lodge a complaint with the police.
