Sunyani April 6, GNA - A 21-year-old labourer was on Wednesday sentenced to seven years imprisonment by a Circuit court at Fiapre near Sunyani, for defiling an eight year old girl at Nsuatre in Brong Ahafo.

Daniel Yaw Adjei pleaded guilty to the charge of defilement and was sentenced accordingly.

Prosecuting, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Kwaku Amoako told the court, presided by Mr. John Owusu Gyamfi, that the complainant in the case, Mr. Gabriel Henneh is a brother to the victim and lives in the same house with the accused at Nsuatre. He said on February this year, Adjei who was taking his bath, called the eight-year-old girl to fetch water for him and when she brought it he forced and had sex with her.

The accused then warned her not to reveal her ordeal to anybody. The prosecutor said on March 22 this year, the parents of the girl observed a change in her gait and also had an unusual scent on her. Upon interrogation the victim revealed that she was experiencing pains as a result of an intercourse she had with Adjei on three different occasions.

Mr. Amoako added that the accused when confronted admitted the offence and offered 30,000 cedis to the girl's parents to buy drugs for her.

The parents reported the case to the police who arrested him and issued a medical form to the parents to send the victim to the hospital for treatment.
