Accra Nov. 17, GNA - A Circuit Court in Accra has sentenced a labourer to six months' imprisonment with hard labour for destroying New Patriotic Party (NPP) posters.

David Ahiagbatu, charged with defacing political party posters pleaded guilty.

Ahiagbatu told the Court that he was a sympathizer of NPP but his accomplices namely Owu Makye and Peter now at large were not. He said he and his accomplices struggled over the posters and they got torn.

The Court, however, rejected his explanation and convicted him. The case as presented by Prosecution was that the complainants were NPP sympathizers. On November 10, this year, Ahiagbatu and his accomplices posed as NPP supporters and collected copies of posters of the New Weija Constituency of the Party but later tore the posters and scattered them on the ground.

A report was made to the Police and when the Police visited the scene, they saw pieces of the poster on the ground. Prosecution said on November 11, Ahiagbatu was arrested but his accomplice escaped. 17 Nov. 04
