Although the deadline for the street naming exercisehas ended, some assemblies in the Western Region could not complete the exercise due to some difficulties.

A tour revealed that proper layout of buildings, lack of area photos and haphazard construction nearly marred all this important exercise meant to address identification and boost revenue collection.

At the Sekondi/Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly, Mr. John Laste, the Public Relations Officer, told the GNA that the Assembly was through with most of the components of the street naming exercise.

He said collection of property rates and other tolls would be easier since most of the houses and streets had been numbered and given names as well.

Mr. Laste said: “Now any defaulter will easily be identified since the system will automatically blink red to point out people who escape the payment of levies”.

At The Mpohor Wassa East District assembly, the GNA learnt that there were no area photos to assist in the exercise.

The assembly therefore had to contract a consulting firm from abroad to throw satellite and capture information for area photos.

Mr. Isaac Nakoja, Town and Country Planning Officer, said house naming was yet to be carried out in the three selected communities; Daboase, Atobiase and Atieku adding, “We also yet to upload the maps on Google”.

The Shama District Assembly and the Tarkwa Municipal Assembly were able to meet the deadline.
