The Member of Parliament for Nalerigu/Gambaga, Nurudeen Mohammed Mumuni, has described the curfew imposed on Nalerigu township and its surrounding communities as being poorly coordinated and lacking justification.

The curfew, announced on Sunday, July 27, 2025, by the Ministry of the Interior, restricts movement in the area from 2:00 pm to 6:00 am.

The directive was issued on the recommendation of the Northeast Regional Security Council in response to what was described as rising insecurity in the area.

However, according to citinewsroom report on July 27, 2025, Mohammed Mumuni questioned the rationale and planning behind the curfew.

He noted that many residents were unwilling to comply due to frustration and a lack of confidence in the security agencies.

“If you look at the curfew that they imposed this afternoon, I can tell on authority some are observing the curfew in Nalerigu and Gambaga and other places. But unfortunately, it is not everybody who is observing the curfew right now because the people are unhappy and others are disappointed,” he said.

He added that the move appeared to be rushed and not properly coordinated by the authorities responsible.

“It is like the security themselves are not well prepared and the leadership of the security agencies including the interior minister. It appears the imposition of the curfew was not a well-thought plan. So, there is no proper coordination on this particular issue,” he stated.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of the Interior has called on chiefs, elders, opinion leaders, and residents to remain calm and use peaceful channels to resolve grievances.

It also cautioned that anyone found in possession of arms or offensive weapons would be arrested and prosecuted.
