Beatrice Naab, the wife of an ex-soldier, Corporal S.K. Naab, who was wanted in connection with a gold robbery incident, has been arrested and put before an Accra Circuit Court for conspiracy and robbery.

The court remanded he r into police custody to reappear on Friday June 10, 2011.

The prosecution, led by ASP Mary Agbozo, told the court that Beatrice, who is also called Mary or Azumah, was introduced to the complainant, a Turkish, in March 2011 as a gold dealer who had concessions in Dunkwa-on-Offinso in the Central Region.

Earlier attempts she made to sell gold to the complainant failed until April 24, 2011 when she contacted the complainant that she had made arrangements at Motions Mining Company for 10kg of alluvia gold for $32,000 per 1kg.

The complainant then sent one of his employees to accompany Beatrice to verify her claims.

On April 27, 2011, the complainant and Beatrice went to Akwatia in the Eastern Region where they bought the 10kg of alluvia gold dust from Motions Mining Company and paid GH¢350,000 as part payment covering 8kg of the gold, with arrangements made to pay for the remaining 2kg at a later date.

On April 28, while travelling from Akwatia to Accra, two uniformed policemen allegedly stopped the complainant’s car and searched the boot where they found the gold dust in a sack.

The two men carried the gold into their Toyota 4×4 vehicle, against the complainant’s wish.

They further ordered the accused person and the complainant’s employee to sit in their vehicle while the complainant drove alone after their car.

While approaching Nsawam, the supposed police vehicle stopped and dropped the complainant’s employee.

When the complainant attempted to sit in the vehicle containing the gold, the vehicle sped off. When he called Beatrice, she gave him the impression that they were at the Koforidua Police Station but the complainant did not find them there.

All attempts made by the complainant to get Beatrice and her accomplices, as well as his gold, proved futile. A report by Daily Guide that suspect was wanted by the police led to her arrest. She has therefore been charged with the offence while police make attempt to arrest her other accomplices.
