Lake Bosomtwi Basin Made World Heritage

The United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) has designated the Lake Bosomtwe Basin in the Ashanti Region as a world heritage site.

The designation comes after Ghana Integrated Tourism Development Plan (ITDP) 1996-2010 also identified the lake basin as a major natural resource which ends itself to an integrated and sustainable tourism product development.

In order to achieve the set objective of realizing an orderly development of the lake basin therefore, the Ashanti Regional Co-ordinating Council (RCC) in collaboration with the Asanteman Council has set up a Technical Planning Committee with its secretariat at the offices of the RCC.

The Regional Minister Mr. Sampson Kwaku Boafo has asked all stakeholders, including prospective investors, to liaise with the Technical committee in respect of development programmes and activities in the lake Basin.

Mr. Boafo also warned prospective developers, traditional and local authorities to desist from encouraging and causing a haphazard physical development of the area to ensure a co-ordinated development of this unique natural resource for the benefit of the entire nation.
