Accra, Dec. 13, GNA - Internal Revenue Service (IRS) on Tuesday caused the arrest of the Proprietor of Great Lamptey Mills School Complex, Mr Enoch Lamptey Mills for unlawful removal of the Commissioner's Seal applied to the School's Gate; Administration Block and the Director's Office for non-payment of tax.

According to Mr Theophilus Gaskin, Coordinator of the (IRS) National Taskforce, the School was in tax arrears of 667 million cedis. He said the School violated section 151 of the IRS Act 592, which made it a criminal offence for any person to obstruct or impede tax administration.

Mr Gaskin said it was on Tuesday when the IRS Taskforce placed the Commissioner's Seal and by the next day the seals were removed. Mr Lamptey Mills told the Ghana News Agency at the Kaneshie Police Station that knowing that the School owed in tax payment to the IRS "we wrote back to them, that we will pay the amount bit by bit, but up to date we were unable to pay all the arrears.=94 He said: "Am willing to pay 50 million cedis to 100 million cedis. The Commissioner has promised to spread the amount for the period of six months for the School to pay."

Mr Lamptey-Mills said the School was forced to remove the Seals at the gate to enable the school bus to enter the campus. 13 Dec. 06
