The Concerned Landlords and Citizens of Kasoa, Obom Road, known as BIgman in the Central Region, have petitioned the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to protect them against the harassment of land guards.
The petition signed by Iddrisu Jakpa, Chairman of the Concerned Landlords and Joseph Boakye, Secretary, and a victim who wants to remain anonymous, said the gun and machete wielding land guards are pulling down buildings and reselling the lands.
They said the 17-member gang led by one Kofa, extort money from members of the community before allowing them to build on their lands.
“Our building materials are being vandalised to an extent that recovering any of the items is impossible. We even find it difficult to sometimes gain access to our building sites and homes,” the petition said.
It said the arrest and imprisonment of two of the hardened criminals in March 2012 did not serve as deterrent to the others.
The landlords said the community and its environs have become the sanctuary for criminals who operate with impunity even during the day.
“We are therefore appealing to you (IGP) to come to the aid of our community since we cannot stand the gang of criminals who pose a serious security threat.”
