Professor Kassim Kasanga, Minister of Lands and Forestry, said says the Ministry in collaboration with the World Bank and other development partners would soon start to implement the Land Administration Project.

This was contained in an address read for him at a Lands Commission Forum and Annual Review Meeting under the theme: "Restoring Public Confidence In The Operations Of The Lands Commission". Prof Kasanga named the other development partners as British Department for International Development (DFID) and the German Co-operation Agency (GTZ). He said he was hopeful that the project would enable the government and people of Ghana to resolve some of the numerous land related problems.

Prof Kasanga said the Commission had been at the forefront of the project, contributing both personnel and other logistic support. Prof Kasanga spoke about the need for agencies involved in land administration to be guided by the principles that ''availability, currency, accuracy and accessibility of information is very vital if we are to be effective as land administrators."

Mrs Grace Orleans, Chairperson of the Lands Commission, said large sums of money by way of compensation had either been or continued to be paid for lands annually. She said there were instances where some individuals or groups of people deliberately encroached on state lands and thereafter submitted applications for regularisation.
