Lassia-Tuolu Secondary in Upper West Region closed-down

Wa, Aug. 11, GNA - Mr. C.S. Paaga, Upper West Regional Director of Education on Wednesday closed-down Lassia-Tuola Senior Secondary School, following a mysterious circumstance under which the bungalow of the headmaster was burnt down by fire two weeks ago.

He said the school would not re-open until the real truth and all related investigations were fully established.

Mr Paaga who disclosed this in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Wa on Thursday said seven suspected student who were arrested on August 1, in connection with the fire outbreak have been remanded in police custody pending further investigations.

He explained that on Sunday, July 31, Mr Andrew Kpan, Headmaster of the school woke up around 0200 hrs. to see his bungalow in flames. He said although a message was sent to the Wa Ghana National Fire Service, over 40 kilometres away, they arrived at a time the fire had gutted down the whole bungalow.

Mr Paaga wondered how the bungalow could have caught fire at that time since the school had no electricity.

He said soon after the disaster, the school authorities received further threat notices that they were going to burn more structures, which compelled him to close down the school. The Regional Director said they would deal ruthlessly with people engaged in the burning act, which has deprived many more students and dislocated their education time-table.

Meanwhile, the Regional Police Command has detailed some policemen to the school to prevent any such occurrence.
