Late Ngleshie Alata Mantse to be buried this year; his successor outlines visions

Heads of the Ngleshie Alata Traditional Area in the Greater Accra Region, have finally resolved to bury the late chief of Ngleshie Alata (James Town) Oblempong Nii Kojo Ababio V, this year, to pave the way for development.

This was announced on Tuesday, 18 September 2018.

The announcement followed a ruling by the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs, Dodowa, in favour of Dr. Prince Ashiaku Bruce Quaye as the true heir to the throne after a legal tussle at the High Court between him and Adontenghene Nii Ngleshie Addy V.

The suit was filed by Adontenghene Nii Ngleshie Addy V and Prof. Hubert Addy at the High Court against Dr. Prince Ashiaku Bruce Quaye and eight others, to determine the heirs-apparent to the throne.

The matter, however, was referred to the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs for resolution on grounds that the High Court had no jurisdiction over the case.

According to the customs of James Town, a successor is installed immediately after a chief dies, to steer the affairs of the area.

At a press conference in Accra, Paramount Chief of Ngleshie Alata Traditional Area, Oblempong Nii Wetse Kojo II, promised to strengthen the bond of love among the paternal and maternal heads of the deceased family.

He promised to modernise their mode of fishing to improve the domestic economy of the prominently fishing community.

Oblempong Nii Wetse Kojo II also promised to establish a fishing school at James Town and an ultra-modern cold storage facility to shift focus from obsolete methods of fishing.

He vowed to set up a scholarship scheme and a disability health centre with training facilities for the disabled.

The chief also intends to push for the refurbishment of the old harbour and lead a crusade to enhance the beaches of James Town to world-class recreational centres.

He also intends to establish a microfinance company to support businesses with loans at low interest rates.

With sanitation also on his agenda, the chief hinted at measures to ease pressure on public places of convenience and bath houses in James Town by constructing modern toilet facilities.
