Tepa (Ash), Nov. 12, GNA- The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints on Sunday presented 12 wheelchairs to 12 handicapped persons at a ceremony at Tepa in the Ahafo-Ano North District of Ashanti. The beneficiaries were five females and seven males.
Mr Edmond Adusei, Senior member of the church in Kumasi, who made the presentation, said the gesture was part of the social responsibility of the church to assist the needy and the unfortunate in the society. He advised the beneficiaries to make good use of the wheelchairs and advised them against using it to beg on the streets or selling it. Mr Adusei said the church took delivery of 250 wheelchairs and distributed them to deserving beneficiaries in all the 18 districts in the Ashanti Region.
Mr Anthony Obeng, District Social Welfare Officer, who received the items on behalf of the beneficiaries, thanked the church for the continuous assistance to the physically challenged persons in the society.
He appealed to the church to assist the physically challenged to acquire employable skills in order not to depend too much on others for survival.
