Accra, March 18, GNA - Dr Emmanuel Dornu Kitcher, Head of Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) Unit of the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital on Thursday said 43 per cent of cases reported at the Unit were ear diseases. He said most of the affected people were industrial workers who worked in loud noisy environments.

Dr Kitcher was speaking at a ceremony at which The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints presented hearing impairment aids and accessories worth 100,000 dollars to the new Audiology Centre of the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH) in Accra

He said due to ignorance and poverty, workers sometimes, did not report at health facilities early thereby worsening their condition. He said there was only one hearing impairment centre in the country at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH).

The Centre, he said served the Northern Part of the country, adding that the Korle-Bu Centre would serve the Southern sector. Mr Charles Sono-Koree, Chairman of the Board of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints' Educational System, who made the presentation, said the Church had trained four health workers for the Centre.
