Lawra DCE commissions school block, inspects other projects

Nyanyari, (U/W), April 13, GNA - Mr Samson Abu, Lawra District Chief Executive, has commissioned a six unit classroom block at Nyanyari and inspected other infrastructure for health and education constructed by the Assembly and Ghana Education Trust Fund (GET Fund). The classroom block, which was constructed at a total cost of GH¢149,341.65 was funded by GETFund.

Commissioning it, the DCE said in line with the government's target of phasing out all schools under trees, nine number six-unit class room blocks with ancillary facilities were awarded for construction at various locations across the district, out of which five had been completed.

Mr Abu said the Lawra District Assembly also constructed a four number two-unit Day Care Centres and two primary school blocks in the district in 2010.

He said the ultimate goal of constructing the schools was to improve on the quality of education and make it accessible to every child of school going age within the district. The DCE appealed to the people of Nyanyari to support the head teacher and staff of the school to take good care of the facility and also endeavour to send their children to school for them to be educated. He commended the Member of Parliament (MP), Mr Ambrose Dery, and the District Education Director, Mr. Andrew Kpan, for their selfless support in shaping the district's development agenda. The DCE, after commissioning the school, inspected other projects within the district to enable him to handover those that had been completed to their beneficiaries and to ensure the speedy completion of the uncompleted ones.

The projects include; a Day Care centre at Dikpe and two CHIPS Compounds at Boo and Eremon Daazuri constructed at about GH¢40,000 each from the District Wide Assistance Programme (DWAP). Other projects constructed by the GETFund at a total cost of GH¢499,148.43 were also inspected.

They included; a six-unit classroom block with ancillary facilities at Domwini and Eremon Senior High Technical School as well as a Day Care Centre at Mathor. The rest are the completion of another Day Care centre at Babile, three warehouses, 12 stores and 32 unit shed in the Lawra market at a total cost of GH¢80,820.46 with funds from the Community Based Rural Development Programme (CBRDP) and the District Assembly Common Fund (DACF). DACF and the District Development Fund (DDF) funded projects that comprised of a Nurses' quarters at Eremon and the Babile Livestock Market had been completed. The DCE after the inspection said with the number of projects completed so far and those yet to be completed, the development of the district was on track and urged all to support government to deliver.
