Lawyer Boafo elected Lay Chairman of Kumasi Methodist Diocese

Kumasi, May 14, GNA- Mr Kwame Boafo, a Kumasi-based lawyer was on Sunday elected the Kumasi Diocesan Lay Chairman of the Methodist Church. The ceremony took place during the 46th annual synod of the church at the Mount Olivet Methodist Chapel at Santasi in Kumasi. He replaces Mr J.G.K. Owusu, who has been the Diocesan Lay Chairman for the past three years.

Preaching at a sermon to end the four-day synod on the theme, "Winning the Nation for Christ", Right-Reverend Nuh Ben Abubekr, the Diocesan Bishop, said the nation needed a change of heart. He said evil practices such as get-rich-quick attitude, corruption, social vices, shady deals, armed robberies and the pull-him-down attitude have engulfed the nation and needed to be uprooted. Bishop Abubekr bemoaned the increase of expensive funerals, weddings, birthday parties and out-doorings, noting that the church should tackle those issues to minimize such activities. He said as part of its social responsibilities, the church had put up schools, hospitals and student hostels and instituted scholarships to help needy but brilliant students.

Bishop Abubekr advised the church members to contribute to the Methodist Development Fund to enable the church to pursue its development agenda.
