Lawyer files RTI request seeking confirmation of petition to remove Supreme Court judge

A private legal practitioner, Jonathan Owusu Asare, has submitted a formal request to the Office of the President seeking confirmation of reports that a petition has been filed for the removal of Supreme Court Justice Yonny Kulendi.

According to a citinewsroom.com report on Monday, October 13, 2025, the request, dated October 7, 2025, and addressed to the Information Officer at the Jubilee House, invokes the Right to Information Act, 2019 (Act 989) and Article 21(1)(f) of the 1992 Constitution, which guarantee citizens’ access to information in the public interest.

Asare’s inquiry follows widespread media reports and public discussions regarding a petition filed by Daniel Marfo Ofori-Atta on September 30, 2025.

The petition according to reports, accuses Justice Kulendi of judicial misconduct, specifically alleging improper interference in proceedings at the High Court during the now-discontinued ambulance procurement trial involving Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson and two others.

The lawyer has asked the Presidency to confirm whether a petition for Justice Kulendi’s removal has indeed been filed.
