Lawyer provides PPEs to fight coronavirus in the Nabdam district

As part of the measures to curb the spread of coronavirus and to also educate the people of Nabdam District near Bolgatanga in the Upper East Region, a philanthropist, Lawyer Lamtiig Apanga, has donated some Coronavirus Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs) to some selected major health facilities and chips compounds in the District.

Educational posters and a team of health personnel were in the district to educate residents on preventive measures to avoid coronavirus.

PPEs including nose masks, gloves, hand sanitizers, Veronica buckets and medicated soap were presented during the 2 days exercise.

Places visited included Kongo-Logre, Nangodi, Pelungo, Zanlerigu, Sakote, Ayamfoya, Kongo Daborin, Pitanga. Nangode Police station and others were beneficiaries of the donation. The Bolgatanga regional hospital was also supported with hand Sanitizers, gloves, and nose mask.

This initiative dubbed “Lawyer Lamtiig Apanga’ Support against the Spread of Covid19” aimed at supporting the less privileged in times like this, especially in rural areas.

Speaking during the presentation, Lamtiig Apanga said, “as a son of the land and a native of the land it is extremely important that we educate our people in the language that they understand better and provide them with the basic logistics to help the health workers discharge their duties with little fear. The attention so far has been in Accra, Kumasi and the big cities with little or no attention given to the rural communities. So I discussed with some friends about taking this initiative and with their support, we raised some funds to buy these items to support the health facilities and the people of Nabdam near Bolgatanga in the Upper East Region".

He expressed worry over the lack of PPEs and education at major health centers in the Upper East Region as the country is currently recording increasing cases.

“When I got here it was observed that the government’s efforts were not adequate and several of the health facilities visited did not have the basic preventive equipment. Veronica buckets, sanitizers, and other PPEs were scarce which present a challenge for the people. It is expected that the intervention from my friends and I, although insufficient to address the entire health needs of the people, it will complement the efforts of government as calls for intervention from government and other stakeholders are made”, he added.

The Officer-In-charge of Pitanga Clinic, Edith Adongo who received some of the items on behalf of the clinic thanked the team for the timely intervention as the clinic is in need of PPEs and other basic necessities.

She called on other stakeholders to emulate this kind gestures to prevent the spread of the virus.

“We are very grateful for this kind gesture. We really needed these items presented to us, I would want to use this medium to appeal to other organization to come to the aid of the staff and people in this community to enable that we stay healthy while we curb the spread of the virus” She appealed
