Leader of Save the Nation for Future Leaders appeals for calm in mining community

The founder and leader of Save the Nation for Future Leaders, Atta Apeakorang, has appealed for calm at Akyem Anyinasin in the Eastern Region following a protest by residents on November 2, 2025, against any form of mining activities in the community.

The protest, which drew dozens of residents, was sparked by allegations that the Chief of Akyem Anyinasin, who had previously opposed mining, had made a sudden U-turn to permit miners to operate in the area. Residents accused him of bowing to pressure from influential chiefs, government officials, and other powerful individuals with mining interests.

In a series of audio messages circulated on community WhatsApp platforms and in an interview with journalists, Atta Apeakorang urged residents to remain calm and avoid actions that could disturb the peace of the town.

He reaffirmed his strong opposition to any form of mining in Akyem Anyinasin, emphasising his continued support for the people’s efforts to protect their lands and environment.

Atta Apeakorang, who is also the elder brother of the Chief of Akyem Anyinasin, expressed disappointment in his sibling’s decision to permit mining in the area. He, however, stressed that despite his love for his brother, he would not support any move that could destroy the community’s natural resources and livelihood.

Some residents of Akyem Anyinasin commended Atta Apeakorang for his bold and peaceful message, saying that this is the kind of assurance and leadership they had expected from their chief. They praised him for standing with the people and prioritising the well-being of the community over personal or political interests.

Atta Apeakorang concluded by calling for dialogue and peaceful engagement between traditional authorities, residents, and relevant stakeholders to resolve the matter amicably and safeguard the unity and development of Akyem Anyinasin.
