The Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority has taken delivery of an innovative leg-operated hand washer from the Fruit Terminal Company as part of the Company’s measures to support prevention the spread of COVID-19 in the Port of Tema.
World over, many innovations have emerged to enable societies tackle the current crisis of the coronavirus.
To reduce the likelihood of contaminations in the Port space, the Fruit Terminal Company Limited has built a hi-tech equipment in- house to enhance post users’ ability to wash their hands without touching knobs.
A technical supervisor at the Fruit Terminal, Patrick Ato Koomson, indicated that his outfit finds it critical for the port environment to augment its preventive measures, hence, the contribution of the Fruit Terminal Company.
“The Port has a lot of people entering so once we want to avoid contamination through the hands, we devised this system for the leg to dispense both the soap and water,” he said.
The Port of Tema Security Manager, Colonel William Kwabiah who received the leg-operated hand washing apparatus on behalf the Port Authority, stated how it would improve the protection of port users against the coronavirus disease.
“It was a game changer for us because the security department is at the forefront of all port users and with this leg operated machine it ensures that contact is limited,” he said.
