Legon VC Collapses At Congregation

A different story would have been told at the University of Ghana Legon congregation last Saturday March 15 if the vice-chancellor had not been a physically fit person.

Prof. Asenso Okyere is known to exercise regularly; however delivering his ?abridged? report to the congregation under the scorching sun appeared to be too much for the energetic vice chancellor.

In the middle of his speech, the apparently dehydrated University don gulped down a glass of water to revitalize himself. Unfortunately, this was not enough. He stalled mid sentence, overcome by the heat. His colleague professors helped him to his seat to recover while Pro. Vice Chancellor Prof. Ofori Sarpong continued the speech on his behalf.

At the end of the Pro. Vice Chancellors presentation, a fully recovered VC waved at the congregation. Some of students in the background screamed ?metiase oo, min wuu ye oo; a reference to Christiana Love?s 2003 Gospel hit.

The incident revealed obvious lapses in the arrangement for the Congregation. Speakers who went to the lectern had no form of protection and despite the conspicuous presence of the police riot van, there was no ambulance around.
